Welcome To The Holidays Set, pt 2

Another slow Tues, December nite. Not surprising. Probably half a dozen or so folks there when I started my set, probably double that by the end. Set still felt decent, though, if a tad on the lonely side. I should’ve dusted off my old Goldstein tune: Empty Bars. Though I guess I’ll save that for when it really is truly empty…

Set List:

Half The World Away (Oasis cover)

Girl (Beatles cover)

Come Along & Thrill Us

Houston

Who Am I (What’s My Name)? (request/Snoop Dogg cover)

Ordinary Song

Waymore’s Blues (Waylon Jennings cover)

Save Yer Love For Me

NEW RECORD NEWS:

I’ve been finishing up the recording on a set of tunes that will be the follow up to Lone Star. Mixing should begin here in January. With any luck, I hope the new record (tentatively titled “North Hollywood Skyline”) will be available in the spring. The bulk of this one has been recorded here at my own humble BlackPug Studios with some additional recording around the corner at Plasticsoul’s studio “The Ranch” with Marc & Steven. Some song titles include:

Come Along & Thrill Us
Get The Losers Out
Charade
Bottom Of The Bottle
Wish I Knew
Sweetheart Of The Rodeo
North Hollywood Skyline
Surf Bum

OTHER NEWS

Saturday Night Live – Bear City theme

Before last year’s Saturday Night Live season (04-05), my friend T. Sean Shannon asked me to compose a theme song for a series of shorts he was filming called “Bear City”. As luck would have it, several of these surreal comedic pieces aired during that season. There’s now a website dedicated to Bear City & it has a few of these shorts available for streaming. There’s a section w/a few of the tunes I created for this series. Thanks, T. Sean!

*Good Night & Good Luck

MOURNING:

*The New England Patriots – Playoff loss at Denver Sat, 01/14

My boys went down in a blaze of inspired self-destruction, turning the ball over 5 times. A surreal game. Oh, well, here’s to getting this far despite losing more starters than any other team. PATS!

The Return of the Kay!

Back to the Kay guitar aka “the lucky guitar” (thanks, Kitty). Everyone loves the way this guitar looks. I wish it played like the Martin, but then it wouldn’t be the Kay, would it? But it sounds good & at least it works. Impromptu opening 2-song set by David, the guy who once said he was gonna get me into Largo (see December 11 post). This nite he was saying he was gonna have me record at his fancy studio. Perhaps it was the beer talking one nite & the tequila the other. Or both. Something was talking lots. And also, we learned this interesting tidbit; he was once the roommate of Emeril Legasse! Fascinating stuff, I know. Oh, the people you meet in show business...

Breakdown (request/Tom Petty cover/incomplete)

Music When The Lights Go Out (request/Libertines
