SET LIST & NOTES FROM 12/05 UBG SHOW:

Craggy Voice Set

For some reason, it took my voice like 5 songs to get warmed up. Very unusual. Perhaps it was the ice in the water, the cold in the corona, the airline trip from Mexico, vacation? Anyway, despite a craggy & slightly pitchy start, things started to get groovy about 6 songs into the set.

Set List:

Drunk With You

Come Along & Thrill Us

Psycho (request/Leon Payne cover)

Save Yer Love 4 Me

Girl (Beatles cover)

Wish I Knew

Things Have Changed (Bob Dylan cover)

Hello (request/Oasis cover)

*Match Point

The new Woody Allen film set in London. I think the change of locale did him good.

READING:

*The Tao Of Pug

Some good Tao-isms featuring Wilson the pug. Lotsa pictures. He’s a handsome fellow, and pretty smart, too.

ROOTING FOR:

*The New England Patriots – Wildcard playoff game Sat 01/07

Despite losing the most starters of any team in the NFL and playing toughest schedule statistically (first half of the season), the Pats are still in the playoffs. They’ll host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday.

Hello ’06! Set
aka Orange Bowl Forever Show

Good crowd. Lotsa familiar faces. Some unfamiliar ones, too…Orange Bowl was on (already overtime 1 or 2) by the time I took the stage. The overtimes kept piling up and lasted through my set & into Carol-Anne’s. Penn State ultimately got tired of extra periods and decided to end the suspense (& viewer fatigue) and went ahead and kicked a field goal, putting Florida State out of their prolonged misery. I don’t really follow NCAAF, but I couldn’t help noticing the Penn State coach, Joe Paterno, a sort of Columbo-esque character on the sideline, leading his team (the long way) to victory.

Drunk With You

Highly Evolved

Houston

Come Along & Thrill Us

Norwegian Wood (Beatles cover/short version)

Good To Know (request/slow version)

If Only You Were Lonely (request/Replacements cover)

Anthrax Blues (request)

Waymore’s Blues (request/Waylon Jennings cover)

Sunday Shining (request)

Who Am I (What’s My Name)? (request/Snoop Dogg cover/audience singalong)

The Martin Craps Out Again/Steven Wilson Saves The Day Show

Steven Wilson played my slot & I played Carol-Ann’s as she was gigging up the hill at Universal City Walk/BB Kings. My once-faithful Martin went down again at the beginning of the set. After two aborted songs, I was lucky enough to trade out & use Steven’s new Silvertone semi-hollow body guitar (thanks, Steven!). Interesting doing a set electric instead of acoustic. Changes so much how you play, there’s tons of sustain, and just the tone of the strings is, of course, very different. But I enjoyed it. Next week I’ll be back to my now-faithful Kay guitar aka “The Lucky Guitar”, which filled in valiantly in the Martin’s stead all December long.

Quote of the nite:
“What happened to the lucky guitar?”

Set list:

Drunk With You (incomplete/tech difficulties)

Highly Evolved (incomplete/tech difficulties)

Needle In The Hay (request)
