Sat Nite Show, July 9, in Studio City, CA

Hey Everyone,

I’m playing a show this Saturday nite, supporting my
good friend Eddy Sill’s band The Popravinas. It’s in
Studio City & it’s free. I might be at the Lebanese
restaurant called Cedar House (a few doors down)
before the show, so if I’m not at the Suites, check
there. And plan to stay on for the Popravina’s.
They’re a rockin’ pop band, w/a little country &
Westerberg.

Details:
Sat, July 9
Studio Suites – 8:30PM (my set)

LISTENING TO:

*Plasticsoul: Pictures From The Long Ago
I’ve written about Steven’s stuff here before. Well,
now the record is done & is available. Very
impressive debut. It sounds old-fashioned, it sounds
modern. It’s Pictures From The Long Ago. Have
yerself a listen right away, don’t delay.

*Elliott Smith: From A Basement On The Hill
Plenty of first rate stuff on this swansong.

*Ludwig Van Beethoven: Moonlight Sonata (Mancini &
Horowitz versions)
Always hauntingly beautiful. Used well in the motion
picture “Ray”.

*The Redwalls: Falling Down
Defiant response to FCC’s recent nonsense. A call to
arms to other artists, delivered in a throaty,
Lennonesque-’65 croak. It’s the Mersey sound updated.

*The Game: Dreams
Compelling, irresistible track that grooves. Dr.
Dre’s production always distinctive, memorable &
inspiring.

READING:
*Happy Happy, Joy Joy (with my face on the floor)
(Emitt Rhodes cover story in LA City Beat)

As some of you may know, my last record “Lone Star”
was dedicated to Emitt Rhodes. This is a well written
article, if somewhat depressing, on what Emitt is up
to these days. Check it out. Here’s hoping he can
record & release a new record and move forward with
his life. Not sure how I missed this article back
in January, but thanks to Dale Marks for bringing it
to my attention. Seek out Emitt’s solo work, esp the
compilation: “Daisy Fresh from Hawthorne, CA: Best of
the Dunhill Years”.
